Cantori Veneziani
Its establishment dates back to 1975 and already in the following year the staff exceeded one hundred choristers, mostly young students from primary and secondary schools in Venice and the surrounding area. The growing enthusiasm pushed Maestro Davide Liani and his assistant Maestro Mara Bortolato to engage the choir in demanding repertoires and ambitious projects. The philosophy of the "open choir" has led to the creation of important musical projects in recent years, such as "Chichester Psalms" by L. Bernstein; the “Missa Solemnis Graner Festmesse” by F. Lizst; the “Cantata St. Nicholas” by B. Britten, “Budavàri Te Deum” by Z. Kodály performed on the occasion of the 40th anniversary celebrations and, recently, “The Armed Man: a Mass for peace” by K. Jenkins. By express will of the Founding Members, participation in the Association only requires the subscription of the annual membership fee, to give everyone the opportunity to attend the activities. In line with the training projects launched by the Founders, in recent years, musical literacy courses using Kodályan teaching have been resumed in 3 Venetian primary schools, with the expectation of extending the activities to other areas of the city. In recent years the choirs have undertaken new paths, engaging in performances of contemporary compositions (some of which were composed expressly for the Association) and little-known repertoire in order to rediscover sounds and works beyond time. The choral formations are: the Preparatory Course which involves children aged 3 to 6; the Coro dei Piccoli Cantori Veneziani, for the age group between 6 and 10/11 years; the training of the Seniors of the Piccoli Cantori for children aged 11 and over; the Cantori Veneziani mixed choir of adults.
