BARBARIGO MINOTTO PALACE. Facing the Grand Canal, witnesses testify to the building of this noble Venetian Palace around the 15th Century and to the authenticity of the Venetian Byzantine elements dating from the 12th and 13th centuries. Three staterooms adorn the Gran Canal and another three face Rio Zaguri. These were enriched in the first half of the 1700s by the works of artists whose fame and importance are still recognised today. The works of the painters G.B. Tiepolo, Fontebasso and Mingozzi the stucco decorators Campoforo Mazzetti, alias Tencalla, called in by N.H. Pietro Barbarigo, have been perfectly conserved and are today object of study and admiration. The palace holds an aristocratic Chapel dating from the 1700s with Louis XIV elm flooring inlaid with olive-root and other prized wood marquetry. The doors too are Louis XIV, banded in walnut and with bronze handles shaped as vine leaves while the floors of the staterooms are a blend of terrazzo paving and Venetian "pastellone" paving.
